Unit 7

1.    Meeting Aesclepius: I found this exercise to be kind of weird. First I tried thinking of my grandma who died last year but that was hard and a little creepy. So I made up a figure to focus on, and that went a little better. For the week as a whole, I had trouble staying awake every time I tried to do any of these exercises; I hope I am not going into chronic fatigue/mono stuff again. Other than an increase in this general feeling of peace I do not know how to describe how the mindfulness/meditation has increased my psychological or spiritual wellness. I think I will need to continue to do these practices for a while before I see more benefits.

2.    “One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself.”  I think this quote is pretty self-explanatory, though I am not sure that I completely agree with it. After all, you can give someone directions to a place you haven’t been yourself. They may not be the best directions but they can still be accurate. For health and wellness professionals I think it is beneficial if they follow their own advice but not necessarily mandatory. At this point, I think we know enough about health and wellness (physical, spiritual, and psychological) that it is foolish or lazy to disregard these aspects in our own life regardless of what profession we end up in.

  1. Hi,

I also pictured a loved one who had passed whom was my father. I found it pretty peaceful because I felt he always had great energy and was always for helping people. At times I can be selfish and it was nice to feel that I can take some traits from him through this practice. I also did feel a bit of emotion because I do miss him. I tried to focus on his beautiful blue eyes, smile, and wrinkles around his eyes. Focusing on the good made it easy. I could not find a negative thing about him that came into focus at that moment.

Can you explain how making your own figure to focus on worked out when focusing their good traits that were being passed on to us through a beam of light? What good did you imagine?

  2. Hi:

Meeting Aesclepius exercise is to help one gain wisdom and peace from events such as death. There is no reason to feel weird or creepy about it. We have to grow and attain wisdom and that is exactly what the exercise is about to help us on the path of integral health.

  3. I found the quote in the second part of the exercise really interesting. I disagree with you though. It is so important to have experience in something you are teaching to another. While it is not always something that is paid attention to, especially by teenagers, knowing what you are talking about due to the experience you have in it is the best knowledge you can impart to someone.
